Divine Timing (Part 1)

My relationship with divine timing has been steadfast since I was in high school. It’s the thing that made me cling to my faith when it felt like I had no clue where life was going. It’s still the thing I cling to when I’m not sure where things are going. Clinging to it while I write this post – ha. You get it, a stage 4 clinger to divine timing any time I feel uneasy.

It’s tricky – easy to believe in when you look back on your life and see that things always worked out how they were meant to. And even though there is always proof that all this good has followed you, it’s not always easy to believe in when your world is changing.

This is a story for those of you who are in the throes of “figuring it out” while simultaneously trying to “make things happen” and also “just relax and breathe into the present.”

The year was 2021. I know, not that long ago, so let’s give some back story.

Bryce and I moved into the cutest little Spanish house in Burbank, CA in 2014. It was our first house together. It’s the placed we unpacked our separate lives and built them into one. The place where we chose our wedding song, weathered the ups and downs of our careers, started molding our dreams together, you get it; it was special.

We were pretty attached to this house. We actually thought one day we might buy it.

After 7 years, our landlord called to tell us in August of 2021 that she was selling it. We thought “This is our chance. Wouldn’t it be romantical if we could buy this place?” Well, I thought that because I’m a dreamer. Bryce didn’t think it was a great idea because he’s more realistic and practical than I am. To his credit, this house was 95 years old and hasn’t had many updates, but whatever. I coaxed him into getting pre-approved so we could put in an offer. As they say on HGTV, “It had a lot of charm!”

I wrote our landlord a beautiful letter of what our house had meant to us and enclosed our offer.

Then, we waited. We took a photo, popped champagne and sat on the floor of that house waiting to hear back from her.

Divine Timing Part 2 coming next week.

With a lot of love and a little humor,

Mary
